Tim Hasselbeck from ESPN thinks Michael Vick was a disruption for the Eagles in tonights game. What did you want the guy to do Tim? Vick is just starting to develop a relationship with the other players on the team and learn the offense. He was in the game for 6 plays, he went 4-4 when passing the ball, didn’t try to do to much when he had the ball in his hands simply ran the plays and took what the defense gave him. That’s all you can ask of a guy who’s been out of the league for two years.
I thought Vick looked good and I’m interested to see how the Eagles will use him during the season. I think the mixture of athletic ability between Vick and McNabb could give any defense fits if utilized correctly. The Eagles gave a glimpse of an option play, Vick and McNabb split out wide in receiver positions. Maybe the Eagle’s are following suit after the Dolphin’s had so much success last year with the Wildcat formation, but its nice to see another offense getting creative. Vick was about as sharp as you can expect someone to be after so much time off.
On the topic of Vick being out of the game, can someone please give me a legitimate reason why it is necessary to suspend Vick for up to 6 games? He spent two years in jail and missed two complete seasons. I’m pretty sure the jail term was suspension enough from football. I’m not saying that he has or hasn’t paid his debt to society, all I’m saying is that he’s done his time for the NFL. Vick had to hope and pray with every fiber of his being that a team would be willing to take a risk and give him a second chance, he finally gets that chance and has to serve a suspension. Way to go Roger Goodell.

Michael Vick may end up being a distraction to the Eagles this season, but if I am not mistaken, the last time they had a superstar distraction, (Terrell Owens) they made it to the Super Bowl. That is the best the eagles have done since 1981, when they lost to Oakland in the Super Bowl. With that being said, I will go ahead and say that Michael Vick has served his debt to society, and you are correct, the 6 game suspension is a little bit ridiculous. If it were you or I that had gotten convicted of such a heinous crime, we would have served our 2 years and then been set free without suspensions/stipulations. I understand that it is a privledge to play in the NFL, not a right, but that is the same in any job. I just don’t understand why Roger Goodell thinks that he should run the NFL different than any other business, when that is all it is, a business. I think that Vick should be allowed to play because he is one of the best in the business at what he does. I know that people, as well as myself, ridicule his lifestyle and what he did, but no one can say that he isn’t talented enough to be a superstar in the league once again.
